Hieroglyphs deep in the sahara Mark Borda and Mahmoud Marais discovered these hieroglyphic inscriptions deep in the Eastern Sahara, at the border of Egypt, Libya and Sudan in 2007. They are the first evidence we have that the ancient Egyptians penetrated this far.
